Meet Someone New Sunday plus a Freebie

Hiya Peeps

Shuna P here

Today I would like you to meet Jen from Jens Kinder Kids

 Meet Jen
What is the name of your blog?

How long have you been blogging?
I have been blogging for my own purposes for a while, but got serious about networking with other bloggers & teachers in April of this year.

Who/What inspired you the most to start blogging?
I just started reading teacher blogs & realized that I wanted to be a part of the awesome community that was out there. I have found so many inspiring & supportive people here…including Ms. Patterson! ☺ And, for that, I am sincerely appreciative. I don’t know how I would’ve gotten followers without the kindness of strangers! I am ALWAYS happy to return the favor!!

What is the funniest thing a kid has told you?
I had a little girl that was being extremely challenging behavior-wise the other day & I asked her if she gave her mom a hard time when she was at home. She looked at me & said, in her sweet kindergarten voice, “Mrs. Elliott, you know I am a pain in the butt at home, too”…I had to walk away! What do you say to that?!?

What state do you live in and how many years have you been a teacher? What grade?
I live in North Carolina. I have been teaching for 6 years in Kindergarten. <3

What are you totally obsessed with?
My teacher obsessions are Pinterest, organization notebooks, cool pens & markers, and polkadots!

If you can have one thing, regardless of price or reasonability what would it be?
I would love to have a beach house! I could go there whenever I wanted to rest & relax in the ocean breeze…ahhhh!

8. complete these sentences

I could not live without My black, sparkly TOMS.
That sounds a bit materialistic, doesn’t it?! Sorry, sometimes shoes are all it takes to make a girl happy! ☺

I wish parents would take their parenting responsibilities seriously!
I work in a low income, high poverty school, and the students are more of a burden than a blessing to some of my parents…so sad! ☹

When I use my teacher glare & growl a little (Ha!) my kiddos now I mean business!

I am secretly a Nosy Nellie! I like to stay in the loop!

10. 3 things that best describe you
1. Organized!! I cannot stand clutter!!
2. Obsessive when I find things that interest me I tend to go overboard! I’m getting ready to get obsessed with all things Daily 5 related because I am thinking of implementing it into my classroom next year.
3. Big Hearted~ I LOVE my students & I make sure that they have ALL their needs met while they are with me. Sometimes that means me buying them food, clothes, school supplies, etc, but I ALWAYS make sure that they feel loved when they are with me!!

11. What are your top 3 fav blogs ( Please include links)
There are so many that I love…it’s hard to pick just 3!

12. What was your ah ha moment when you knew you wanted to be a teacher?
I think that I always knew from when I was a little girl playing school with my dolls & younger siblings…I’ve always been a little bossy & like to be in charge! Ha!

14. Best teacher tip:
Stay in constant contact with your student’s parents! Don’t just give them the bad news! Call EVERYTIME the student hits a milestone, shows kindness, writes a great story, crosses the monkey bars for the first time, whatever…contact them for anything!! The more positive & encouraging you are, the more involved they will be!

15. One thing that your followers would be surprised to know:
I do NOT like to speak in front of adults! Give me a room full of 5 years olds anyday! ☺

(Me too! I am the same way)

16. Make us laugh!
What is the best joke that you know?
What do you call a bear with no teeth?
A Gummy Bear!
I know, corny!

17. In a past life what would you have been?
I think I would have been a dolphin. I love to swim!

18. What is the first thing that comes to mind
Snakes yuck!!
Dogs awesome
Money would love to have some! Ha!
Friday Hooray!
Monday Let’s do this…
Pinterest addicted~need rehab
Shoes LOVE
Food Anything chocolate
Diets Need to be on one
School 2nd favorite place to spend time
Target they know me by name!
Cooking hate it
Yard Work love it

Alpha Skills Freebie

Hiya Peeps

Ms. Patterson here

This is going to be a short and sweet post

I am actually going to get some cleaning done today!

We shall see how this goes

I might just take a nap

Anyhoo

Do you watch Master Chef?

Well I never did but I started this season because...................

I know that dude! I went to college with him

Yay I can now say I know someone famous

You can check out Master Chef on Mondays on Fox @ 9/8c

--------------------Chirp-----------------------------

Do your kiddos love playdough as much as mine do

I usually use playdough at the beginning of the year to help strengthen my students fine motor skills

Why not combine their love of all things squishy with my need to assess 30 kinders individually at

the BOY in a quiet environment

As as quiet as a kinder class can be

For the first couple of weeks I use a lot of playdough mat centers in my classroom because they are

quick and easy to set up.

I spend a lot of time at the BOY working on letter formation and some get it right off the bat while

others need a little more help

Here is a little freebie that you can use all year round

Enjoy

Just click the pic to pick up this bad boy

Peace Out Peeps

Meet Heidi
from

What is the name of your blog?

My (Not So) Elementary Life

2. How long have you been blogging?
Since February. I began my blog as a way to journal all of my life, but soon found that I wanted to keep it only a teaching blog and then start a separate blog for personal family things.

3. Who/What inspired you the most to start blogging?
All the other bloggers. I personally started following a ton of different AMAZING blogs and thought that I should start contributing my ideas. For all I knew they could help someone else out someday.

4. What is the funniest thing a kid has told you?
My name is Mrs. Dickey to the kiddos. One day, one of my most difficult students came up to my desk and tried handing me something she was making up. She said “Here Mrs. Do-hickey. Here is my paper.” I lost it. I couldn’t stop laughing. Mrs. Do-hickey. Where this came from I have no clue. This happened just a few months ago so it wasn’t like it was at the beginning of the year. That one I will NEVER forget.

5. What state do you live in and how many years have you been a teacher? What grade?
I live in Pennsylvania and have only been a teacher since December. Subbed for a couple months and then First Grade Stole my heart ☺

6. What are you totally obsessed with?
Organization. I LOVE to organize and you might even call me OCD about it. Can I also say my hunky husband ☺

7. If you can have one thing, regardless of price or reasonability  what would it be?
More time with my father who passed away 6 Years ago when I was 16.

8. complete these sentences
I could not live without my husband. He is amazing and I honestly couldn’t function without him.

I wish parents would spend more time with their kiddos and give them the attention and love that they so desperately deserve.

When I raise my voice my kiddos know I mean business.
(I don’t raise my voice often, mostly because I can’t elevate my voice that high…still coming into my teacher voice, but also because I try other means to get their attention.)

I am secretly a(n) germaphobe…worst thing to be with littles around you every day.

10. 3 things that best describe you
Organized, Caring, Independent

11. What are your top 3 fav blogs
How can I choose just 3..that there is a trick question or something because let me tell you I can’t choose just three because I would be lying by saying they were my faves. But if I must I will choose 3 of the ones I follow (in no particular order)
She has AMAZING organizational skills people. I may have just drooled fell in love over her classroom photos when I came upon them.

12. What was your ah ha moment when you knew you wanted to be a teacher?
When I got to help out in the kindergarten classroom all morning when I was in fifth grade. I was able to help the kinders with reading and writing and at that moment I knew that I wanted to be a teacher 100%. Although I have played teacher will my dolls and sisters ever since I was in kindergarten ☺

14. Best teacher tip
Don’t be afraid to try out new teaching methods (like Whole Brain Teaching) even if those around you are not willing to try it. Take the plunge ☺

15. One thing that your followers would be surprised to know
I have been able to say my Alphabet backwards since I was 4 years old, and I can say it FAST!!! I went to my Kindergarten orientation and they gave us an alphabet book dictionary. We got to write words on the lines for each letter and after I got finished with this I was sitting in a chair at home and started going from the back of the book to the front saying the letters backwards. Ever since the end of that day I have been able to say them. Kids think it is soooo cool haha

16. Make us laugh!
What is the best joke that you know.
Oh my goodness. I am soo NOT a joke teller so I am not even going to try.

17. In a past life what would you have been?
Ummm…hmmm….I have no clue…

18. What is the first thing that comes to mind
Snakes: faint
Dogs: Adorable
Money: Hoarder
