Miss Squirrels, Oh HOW I LOVe Her! Trust me you want to check this out!

Hello! Hey there! How are ya?

I can hear you now- "Miss Squirrels, are you lost? This is not your blog."

Now, now- it's all good- I was invited.....no pesky squirrels on this blog!

Shuna invited me to be a guest blogger- so exciting!!!
If you followed me over here, be sure to wipe your feet- we don’t want to leave a mess.

What an ego boost!!! Not only does she like what I have to say- she wants to share it with you- so sweet.

If we've never met, I'll introduce myself:
I'm a first grade teacher who found blogging this past October-
I was "googling" and got hooked- so now i have this place of my own~

Be sure to head over there and check me out-
not yet- you have to read this one first

I was in my classroom this Sunday.
(We still have outside doors AND keys)!~
I don't do it often, but sometimes I just need to get in there and get working.
Because of my Squirrel-like tendencies to be jumpy and move from one thing to another (sometimes without meaning to),
I had to regulate my time
.
So I set the timer for 30 mins.
I decided I would make one tally mark for each time it went off. (Which totally scared the bejeezies out of me each time it went off)
And I would assess where I was, what I was doing, and what I needed to be doing. And I wrote down what I accomplished....I had a hefty list!
I was not planning on staying so long- but I completed a lot!

I thought of Shuna while I was there- and I thought to myself
"Self, this is a good opportunity to get crackin' on that post!"

So I broke out the camera and decided that I would share how I am organizing
my centers for storage-
I am a visual person.

Really, if I can't see what you are talking about, while you are talking about it- there is a very good chance that I will review my grocery list in my head and pretend to listen to you.
Not because I am rude-
Heaven's no, Squirrel-friends~
I'm as sweet as they come..
let's just say that "not all of my nuts are stored in the same tree".

Before I start, I will tell you that
my inspiration for organizing/storing/packaging my centers this way came from
Miss Leslie Ann over at Life in First Grade. Genius.

Also, I was the 2nd commenter on Teaching in High Heels' post about her Fairy Tale Unit and she sent me a copy! I needed to get them finished- so her creations are the ones displayed in the photos.

Some teachers use plastic storage bags. I do have some things in those, but I don't like how they are all willy-nilly when I put them away.

So I like envelopes.
Envelopes tear up.

Not if you laminate them.
I don't have access to a free laminator.
I only get a certain amount of lamination.
Laminating pouches are expensive.

All valid arguments- which is exactly why I LOVE this.

Packing Tape and the 50ct package of White Mailing Envelopes from Wal-Mart = your new best friends

Add a piece of tape behind whatever your cover is going to be so it doesn't shift on you.

Pull off that adhesive strip and tape over it.
Start from the bottom. And, yes- I am taping it to the table. So make sure the surface you are working on is clean.
Go all the way to the tippity top. Smooth it out.

Now, pick it up and turn it over.

Rinse and repeat. (hee hee
)
When it is all taped up, run your nail along the sides to make sure you have a good seal all the way around.
Once sealed, go around all the sides with your exacto knife. I don't use scissors because it makes them gummy.
Carefully run it along the opening.

Make sure to slide the blade in to be sure it is opened all the way.

And Viola!
Look at how nice they look!
And they are STURDY!!!

Whenever I purchase a new center (or win one) this is how I get organized!
And I am grabbing one or two of my older ones after school or during lunch or specials to get them organized in the same way.

If you would like to see how I have my centers set up, come on over.

I'll put my button here again so you don't have to scroll ALL THE WAY UP THERE...

I don't have an up and running Tpt store- because I have nothing to sell- but there are quite a few freebies over there on my blog- check 'em out!

Thanks for sticking around and thank you, Shuna for having me!
Have a wonderful rest of your week!

  2. What a wonderful way to store materials - I have all of mine in plastic gallon bags but I LOVE the idea of organizing all of one unit in an envelope - especially because you can make it pretty by putting the cover on the front of the envelope! So smart!
