I Need Help

Ok so I am pretty new at this blogging thing and I have a question. How do I upload a document that I have created in Word and convert to a pdf using zamzar without it changing my fonts. Somehow when it is convert to from a doc to a pdf it changes to plain boring font, not the one that I used to create it. I have been tying to find the answer somewhere online but I have had no help.

Please send me an email (pocketofkinders@gmail.com)

Tales of a Broke Teacher

So it is the end of June and I am patiently waiting for July to get here. Don't get me wrong June has been very good to me, afterall it was the official beginning of my summer. June has brought me a time to just chill and relax. As I sit here on my couch watching NCIS again and shovel through this huge stack of mail, that I have been neglecting, I find my bank account summary. As I sit here blinking wildly at the total I began to wonder how my account had dwindled to next to nothing. Where did all my money go? I stare at the charges, this can't be right, I say to myself! I examine the statement very closely to find an error in their calculating but alas I don't find one. This is a shocker to me and it hits me like a tons of bricks, and huge tons of bricks! I remember how I got to this place that has left me with less that 20 dollars oh how I remember. It all started innocently enough with a shopping trip to TJ Maxx. I went in to buy my dad a Father's Day gift and a birthday present but it quickly turned into me looking clothes. As I made my way to the counter, with nothing for my dad, the nice lady at the counter said ma'am you total is $231. What? How? I thought well since I have not bought any clothes in months then I should treat myself plus I had lost a whole dress size YaY ME!

After the clothes shopping I decided that I had treated myself enough and decided that I would not spend any money on myself. It worked well for a couple of weeks but sitting at home not doing anything made me realize that I could start working on my classroom for next year. So I hopped on over to PRoTeacher for some ideas and tips. All of these teachers with their ideas got me really excited and wanting to try the ideas in my classroom. So I made a list and went shopping Michaels, Hobby Lobby, Walmart, Dollar Store and Target were in my sights. Once inside these stores I became a sucker for cute and colorful. Ugh, so as I sit here and wait patiently on July. I blame ProTEacher for my less than impressive bank account! Hope July will be a much better month for me, fingers crossed.

Teacher Tipster

I was surfing the internet Like I usually do for some new and fresh ideas. I came across this website http://www.teachertipster.com/ I must have been living under a rock because I had never heard of This site. ( Thanks ProTEacher peeps) I scrolled through and watched all the videos and he has some really neat ideas.

So since I have been on a scrapbooking kick and have been randomly decorating picture frames I decided to try one of his tricks, I think its called fame frames. I am going to use these frames and put a picture of my students favorite characters in them so when they are editing their writing they can have someone listen to them read! While they are reading to Dora or Spongebob they are able to hear themselves and able to correct their work because they can hear what they say.

I can't wait to go back to school and try these out in August with my kiddos!

Spelling Words Board

I was bored one day and I decided that I was going to make a spelling word board to hang in my morning meeting area. I use this to review spelling words and practice for test. The board has pockets on it and I have popsicle sticks that I made with small square sized laminated sentence strips. In the first pocket I write the spelling word on the strip. In the next pocket the students practice spelling the word ( I have a set of letters on popsicle sticks that I use for this) and in the rest of the  pockets we either write a sentence or make a list of words that rhyme.

I also use this as a sort activity where students sort by words that beginning the same, rhyme and end the same in the pockets

Dollar Store Finds!

I went to the dollar store today just hoping to look around and maybe get some ideas! The dollar store for me is like a venus fly Trap that just sucks me in every time. Shoot! I really, honestly did not mean to spend any money but I came out with a bag full of pointers and some storage bins! I am always a sucker for storage and if it is a cute color, LOOK OUT! Oh well I know the kiddos will love them, hehe.

An added plus was that I got the storage bins, the larger ones, filled with all kinds of goodies for a quarter a piece! The smaller buckets are from Target I got 5 of these!

What are some of your favs from Target of the Dollar Store?
